Wānanga is a traditional Māori style of learning that enacts and embeds the culturally responsive and relational pedagogy at multiple levels. Day-long Wānanga were used by the Art departments to support the learning in the Level 1 internal Art Portfolio and by the Mathematics department to support learning for the dreaded MCAT Apply algebraic procedures in solving problems. In both contexts Wānanga significantly enhanced student outcomes, massively increasing the proportion of higher grades.
